I'm not one for New Years Eve, as shocking as that may be to hear, especially coming from a party person. I think I've only thrown one party for NYE, a few years ago. But now with the girls it gets harder to go somewhere and most of our friends have kids too, and babysitters are at a premium this time of year.
We opted out this year from the party scene and spent a night at our cabin on Gull Lake.
We brought out some steak and lobster and whipped up a feast! I say 'we' when really I mean Ben. He is such a great cook and actually likes it! He's always such a big help in the kitchen (except when he cooks with the gas too high and cook the food directly to the pan...) with meal time.
Neither of us are much for champagne, although, I friggin' LOVE poppin' those corks! As well as the idea of champagne, the romance, the bubbles etc. So we brought out a bottle of Riesling from my favourite winery in the Okanagan, Lang, instead. We enjoyed it well before midnight, as we went to bed around 9....What can I say? I did however set my alarm on my phone to wake us up.
We did bring some fireworks to set off and Venice loved it, Giselle was napping, so she missed out on the action.

Ben took Venice skating on the canal behind the cabin, Giselle and I were warm and cozy by the fire inside, so the closest picture I got was from the kitchen window.

Overall it was a pretty low key new years eve and day, but I'm always thankful for the times when we can getaway together.
